Self-Love is Making Friends With Food

Beauty is Found in Every Person

Self-love

I’m sitting here at Lake Tahoe, looking at the gorgeous view as I people watch:  Every shape, size, skin, hair and eye color, complexion, height and ethnicity before me, all beautiful.  I contemplate why the world around us insists on defining beauty when beauty lies in each and every person.

I envy my daughter and her friend as they splash about kayaking and paddle boarding without a care in the world.  Without fear of being who they are.  Without being held back by the body shame that is thrust upon each of us.

Cultivating Self-Love

So how do we combat some of this shame and fear that we have?  We cultivate self-love, we replace negative self-talk, we manage our time on social media, we reach out to someone we trust for guidance and support and as difficult as it is, we make friends with food.  The words sound so simple and yet, as many of you know, simple it is not.

No matter how hard we try at time we fall, yes, we do, but what matters is that we get back up.  We don’t give up.  We continue to fight this battle of beauty not allowing media, friends, family and the world to define us.

(Look for future blogs explaining more in depth how we combat the shame and fear)
